Hi everyone, I am a little bit concerned as to whether I am experiencing implantation bleeding or a reaction to thrush treatment.

ok, here goes….. I am not on BC, simply using condoms (and not always from the start…). I have had thrush for a few days and yesterday I was prescribed a one – off tablet of fluconazole. Almost 3 hours later I began cramping, and although the thrush discharge had almost gone by this time I then noticed I had a pink – red watery discharge, not alot. This seemed to come and go over a few hours. I am still getting a little cramping, no discharge now, slightly dizzy, and feeling sick – but that could all be in my head! My period should be due in 4 days, I did a pregnancy test yesterday but the stupid thing gave an invalid result!!! I have had regular 28 day cycles since I stopped the combined pill 7mths ago.

Please can someone offer me some serious advice!

The side effects of Fluconazole are dizziness, nausea and an upset stomach,- it shouldn’t cause PV bleeding. The bleeding is more likely to a sign that your period is coming a little sooner than usual- the symptoms could have been coincidental. There is no real cause for concern.

Me and my 3 week old daughter have been diagnosed with thrush. For treatment we’ve been prescribed Nystatin. I’m not currently breastfeeding I’m pumping and bottle feeding. I’m putting her liquid oralNystatin on my nipples but I’m going to start using grapefruit seed extract. My question is how to give her the Nytatin. I’m supposed to put 1 ml on the inside of each cheek 4 times a day so every 6 hours, however thats hard with a 3 week old. A lot of doses are more than 6 hours apart due to her feeding and a lot of times I’ll give it to her and then she eats. Isn’t it pointless to give it to her and she eats soon after? Also should I be squirting it inside of her cheeks or swabbing it around her mouth? How long should I start seeing results in her mouth? We’ve been treated for 48 hours, I can tell a difference in my nipples but not in her mouth.

My son had thrush 4 times. It can be difficult to get rid of.
Along with giving her the 1 ml on each side of her cheek, you can also take a cotton swab of the nystatin and swab the inside of her mouth, in cheeks, roof of mouth, tongue. This will help rid it faster.

Do not use pacifiers when baby has thrush because the thrush will live in the pacifier (even if boiled).

Boil all bottle nipples and toys that baby puts in mouth. If toy cannot be boiled wash it with vinegar.

You will notice a change in mouth in about a week and a half.

Or you could go buy Gentian Violet, available at wall-mart pharmacy (may have to order and will be there next day) for about $2. I finally did this after thrush came back the 4th time. There is alot of controversy over Gentian Violet because it may cause cancer if used in high doses for extended periods (basically if you drink 5 bottles of it everyday for 2 years) but you apply it once!!!

Take cotton swab of gentian violet and PAINT the entire inside of baby’s mouth, everything should be purple, cheeks, lips, gums, tongue, roof of mouth. This will stain everything. Next, paint your nipples.

It will wear off naturally (don’t scrub off nipples just let it wear off) it will wear off as your baby drinks over the next day. When the purple is gone so is the thrush. One application, one day, all gone.

Hi everyone. Just wondering if any of you know of any natural treatments for Thrush in Pregnancy? Also any hints on keeping cystitis away??

Garlic tablets can help keep cystitis away. And rinsing/soaking with watered down vinegar will help keep the area the right ph level and help to treat and prevent cystitis. Yoghurt with good bacteria is also helps cystitis. Try to avoid soaps (they alter your natural ph level and this allows bacteria to grow) and just use a wet wash cloth.

refuse treatment

don’t see a doctor
redness and a white spot

have difficulty swallowing
i’m not sure if I have this or not

took a throat culture of my white spot

Depending on where it is , it can be very painful !
If it’s in your mouth it can be very difficult to eat or drink.
You can see a Dr. and they can give you a prescription, or you can try taking some Probiotics avalible from your local pharmacy. They thing that always worked best for me is something called "gingenviloet". it is availble over the counter at your pharmacy. Good luck, and another thing that will also help is making sure to eat plenty of yougurt with active live cultures in it.

As they symptoms are rather annoying. I am also 22 weeks pregnant i only can take the external cream.

i got thrush around 5 times with my 4th baby
use the cream when u first start getting thrush, then once symptoms stop, still use the cream for 2 weeks

thats what your meant to do,,, i hated thrush so much, i had it even the week i delivered my baby,,, and when she was a week old the health nurse noticed my baby had it too, she caught it through me during labour! xxxxxxxxxxxx i had to use my cream on my baby too, lol

Does anyone know if canesten tablets work as well as the cream? Or is cream the better option?

The tablets work really well but I don’t know if OK to use during pregnancy. They gave me the cream when I got thrush when pregnant. Best to check with the pharmacist / midwife

Has anyone else ever taken an oral treatment for thrush whilst pregnant? I am six weeks pregnant and am suffering a nasty bout of thrush, as this is a regular problem for me I already had oral treatment at home and took this yesterday. I am now worrying that I may have harmed my baby, does anyone lnow what the implications would be and if it is indeed harmful at this stage of pregnancy?

My doctor prescribed canestean for me when i was pregnant having said that the tablets weren’t around then, i believe from what the doctor told me it is quite common to get thrush in pregnancy, if you are worried talk to your midwife or doctor. Oh and congrats

what happens if you take a thrush treatment like caneston if you dont have thrush.
i dont have thrush and im not planing on taking anything, but i was just really really curious if anything happened?

Caneston is a vaginal cream, or a vaginal tablet containing clotrimazole.
So I’m guessing that you are talking about vaginal candidiasis, NOT oral .
The word "thrush" is only used to mean oral infection.

You could refer to the vaginal infection as "yeast vaginitis" , for clarity.

clotrimazole is very very safe. I’ve never seen anyone have an untoward side effect from it.

however, it is extremely well known that the yeast colonizing your vagina and mouth can become resistant to clotrimazoles and every other drug in their class if you use these drugs very frequently — mostly this is seen in AIDS patients. But do not tempt fate — when you get your yeast vaginitis, you’d like it to be treatable in one day with this stuff – rather than requiring you to get an intravenous 7 day treatment in the hospital !

So don’t use it if you don’t need to.
